Author and Oakhurst resident Margaret Garrett Irwin will discuss her novel, "The Journal of Anne Reading: From Florence Nightingale to Dorothea Dix and Beyond." Based on original journals, the book shares the amazing experiences of nurse Anne Reading, from the Crimean War alongside Florence Nightingale in 1855 to working for the Union Army under the direction of Dorothea Dix, the "American Florence Nightingale," and with Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross. Irwin is a native of London and the great-great granddaughter of Anne Reading.
